Hi Cariads,
I’d like to share a poem I wrote last year for a talented artist I met online - Uno (@unototrefire on Instagram). His art piece that inspired my poem is described as ‘The forest faery fly giving a flower to her moss favourite friend, the oldest and moldiest tree in the forest to celebrate the beginning of the spring’. The artist and I had a really interesting discussion about the lore behind the piece’s characters, the story that Uno imagined for them. It really brought my imagination to life and I’m grateful Uno was kind enough to share his thoughts with me.
Uno has also created a beautiful piece of art, inspired by my poem ‘Pierced Moth’ - both of his pieces (plus many more) are available to view on his Instagram page. I’m deeply honoured that Uno wanted to create art inspired by a poem of mine, and I’m absolutely thrilled with it! Anyways, here’s the poem. I hope you feel the whimsy that I felt when learning about The Faery and her Sapling.
500th Spring
“My friend, my soul! An Anemone Hupehensis! Do you like it? It’s for you!”,
beamed the winged guardian. A withered trunk opens two cavities
to squint at the insects celebrating his slow, peaceful decay.
Sapling hears the soil’s vibrations and his companion’s twinkling voice only.
Faery loves to decorate Sapling in greenery foreign to his square.
Iridescent wings frantically flap to alert that old man of her presence.
An immortalised protector of the forest, carefully placing her new discovery
in the eyesight of her best friend. Gentle care does not limit itself to mortality.
Our great Forest Faery Fly and her beautifully oblivious sentient tree
gently live around one another as though they have not spent 500 springs together,
and will spend 500 more celebrating their bond. Faery will deliver nature’s wonders
and Sapling will lazily smile, simply content to hear her laugh, surrounded by friends from
all over the world who give thanks for her rooted devotion, his accidental blessing of life.
